Technologies colliding, mythologies melding, capacitors becoming gears, transistors the wings of angels. The microscopic becoming monumental, the fantastic morphing into the real. Ancient Automata reflect algorithmic hallucinations of a generative possibility, informed through centuries of cultural representation, appropriation and emergent desires.
Ancient Automata is a ‘middle form’ generative AI collection developed with MidJourney 5.2. Nine Renaissance artists (Giotto, Masaccio, Piero della Francesca, Giovanni Bellini, Jan van Eyck, Andrea Mantegna, Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Hans Holbein the Younger) and thirteen color palettes (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, lavender, primary, secondary, gray, metallic, earth, pastel, spectrum) influence 468 unique outputs. The artist manually added an additional expressive mood feature (solemn, neutral, joyful) to each of the images.
All 468 outputs are included in an image pool without artist curation. Images are randomly selected at time of mint, ensuring only a single instance of each of the 100 final tokens. Images are each 5824px x 3264px.
